    About the Cards

Lectio Divina Cards are designed to guide you through a prayerful encounter with Scripture—helping you slow down, listen deeply, and enter into dialogue with God’s Word. Rooted in the ancient Christian practice of Lectio Divina (“divine reading”), each card offers a passage or text for reflection along with a simple four-step process: Lectio (Read), Meditatio (Reflect), Oratio (Respond), and Contemplatio (Rest).

In addition to Old Testament and New Testament Advent Readings, the collection includes reflections from the Saints—such as St. Peter Chrysologus, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Charles Borromeo, St. Gregory the Great, St. Cyril, St. Anselm, St. Cyprian, St. Ephrem, St. Leo the Great, St. Irenaeus, and St. Augustine—as well as meditations on the O Antiphons, Collects from the Mass, and more.

These cards can be used individually or in groups to nurture spiritual reflection, draw from the richness of Scripture and tradition, deepen your relationship with Christ, and allow His Word to take root in your heart and daily life.

    Instructions:

    1. Lectio (Reading) What does the text say? Read the passage slowly and attentively. Make a careful and deliberate inspection of the scriptures.
    2. Meditatio (Meditation) What does it say to me? Reflect on any word or phrase that draws your attention. Seek hidden truth under the guidance of reason.
    3. Oratio (Prayer) What do I say to God? Respond in prayer through Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. (ACTS) Turn your heart to God.
    4. Contemplatio (Contemplation) What does He say to me? Rest in God’s presence. Be attentive to His inspiration and the movements of your will—consider any resolutions He may be asking you to make.
